This will also help you realize when you are stressed and you can take steps to destress, instead of stress eat.
Try cooking at home more.
Even if you are not a great cook, cooking at home can help you to lose weight. Once you are making your own food you will be more aware of what is going into your food. Restaurant food tends to come in big portions so by cooking at home you will be able to control your portion sizes better. One last thing is that you will also save money by eating at home instead of eating out all the time.
This is very obvious, but seriously start eating healthy. When you stress, and I mean who doesn’t stress constantly anymore? You create hormones that make you crave sweet and salty foods. Stay away from the tempting empty calories and try to substitute with healthy foods. You can make a smoothie or eat a handful of almonds, for example. Once you are aware of your options, you will realize how easy it can be to substitute your empty calorie snacks with healthy ones.
Drink more water.
Even if you think that you drink enough water in a day, you probably don’t. You should drink about 2 liters of water a day. Water can help with digestion and it can help to boost your metabolism. Think about it, our bodies are made up of mostly water, so make sure that you are staying healthy by drinking enough.
Are you burning enough calories?
It is very common for people to think that they are burning more calories than they are eating, but is it true? Your calorie intake should be about the same as the calories you are burning. Of course, you probably won’t be able to burn off all the calories, but keep track of how many calories you take in and how many you burn off. Invest in an activity tracker to help you with this.
You can give into your cravings.
You should have one cheat day a week. This may seem counterproductive, but by giving into your cravings once a week, you will be more likely to stay on track for your diet. If you completely ignore your cravings, you will be more likely to give into them eventually, as you will completely hate your diet. It is important to keep a balance, to help keep you on track and happy.
Never go to a party hungry.
Think about it, when you’re drunk, you are more likely to just eat whatever and in large quantities. You are also more likely to fill up with alcohol, which isn’t great for you in the first place. When you go to a party, you need to give yourself rules to help keep you on track for your diet.
Do not tell yourself no.
When you are craving something, you will only crave it more once you tell yourself no. If you absolutely must eat that piece of cake, adjust your workout to help get off those extra calories that you will take in. You may also be able to curb cravings if your workouts only increase every time you give in. Try to keep yourself from eating too much junk, but also telling yourself no can be very counterproductive to your weight loss journey, as you might give up because of the cravings.
Eat your fruits and veggies.
You should try to eat about five servings of fruits and veggies every day. This may seem like a lot, but once it is put in perspective it is not. Try adding fruit to your breakfast, have them for a snack, for lunch, and a serving at dinner. You should eat about three meals a day, with two to three small snacks to keep your metabolism going. Once you think about how much you should eat, eating five servings of fruits or veggies a day isn’t so daunting.
Pay attention to your portions.
Your portions may just be the most important part of your diet. Even if you are eating healthy, if you are eating too much you won’t see the results you want. I said it above, but make sure that your calorie intake is either the same or less than what you are burning every day. Make sure that you pay attention to your portions and you will notice yourself automatically making the correct portion decisions.
Lastly, plan ahead.
Meal planning is really important for a diet. It can help to ensure that you are eating healthy. When you get busy, you will more likely to fall of your diet train, but if you are planning ahead, you can stay on track.
