One of the hardest things to do in life can be to lose weight. Those extra pounds can really affect your health and overall well-being, so why are they so hard to lose? When it comes to weight loss, we need to be better able to see our end goal if we want to lose these pounds. If you know what you are doing, losing weight can be easy. Here are a few things that can help you get well on your way to losing the weight that you want to.
This can sound silly, but tea can be very beneficial to weight loss. Choose your teas wisely though. You should drink “real tea” not herbal teas. Basically, if you are choosing green tea, known for its antioxidants, over chamomile tea you will be fine. The more likely you are to choose tea as a drink, the more likely you are to have a lower BMI over time.
No more processed carbs.
All processed carbs do for you is create a great environment to gain fat. Processed carbs are those found in your junk foods, fast foods, and really anything else that you can think of as unhealthy food. These processed carbs will only help you to gain fat, instead of lose it.
Eat your fruits and veggies.
This is a fairly obvious thing. You should eat more fruits and veggies. They are filled with great vitamins and nutrients. They are also low in calories. Overall, fruits and veggies are a great substitute for processed carbs as they will help you to lose weight instead of gain it.
Calorie free drinks are important.
Calorie free drinks are easy to find, and are honestly not that bad tasting. You should try to switch to calorie free drinks if you are trying to lose weight. You will be surprised as you begin looking for calorie free drinks, that there are many out there, in fact, you may be drinking some already.
Leave some food on your plate.
Especially when you eat out, since the portions tend to be very large, leave some food. We have all been told in our lives that we have to finish our plates, but that’s not the truth. It is actually better for you if you leave some food on your plate at the end of meals. Did you know that it can take your brain almost 20 minutes to register that your stomach is getting full? Because of this you tend to overeat, especially at restaurants. Keep these things in mind every time you eat out. Even if the meal is healthy, it is probably in too large of a portion for you to stay on track for your weight loss journey.
Dessert is one of the most tempting things, especially when you are eating out. As stated above, it takes a while for your brain and your stomach to communicate that it is full. If you skip dessert, you will skip unnecessary calories and overeating. Remember that dessert is meant to be tempting, and you do not need it if you want to stay on track.
Watch your portions.
Portions are an important part of losing weight. The more you eat, the less likely you will be to lose weight. It is really important to portion your food so that you are not starving and are getting enough food every day. The more often that you find yourself starving, the more likely you will be to quit your diet and your weight loss journey altogether. Make sure that you are eating foods that are high in nutrients, but you are not eating only one large meal a day. You should eat three small meals, with two or three healthy snacks, throughout the day to help with your weight loss goals.
Keep a journal.
If you keep a journal that documents your food intake and your weight, you will be more likely to stay on track. You should be documenting your food intake every day and your weight at least once a week. You will be able to look back at your previous goals and see that you are closer to, or have already, accomplished your past goals. You will also be better able to make more goals in the future. You will be able to see what you are doing right, and what you are doing wrong. This can be very beneficial to your weight loss journey.
Do not sit as much.
Sitting is a major cause of weight gain. By being inactive, your body is less likely to burn calories, and you are more likely to sit, eat, and watch TV. Your body needs regular activity to stay healthy. Even at work, you should spend less time sitting down. Try to get up and have more breaks, by taking a walk around the room, or even doing small exercises in your office. You can also start taking the stairs instead of the elevator. As long as you are upright, your body will burn more calories. Remember that you should get about 30 minutes of activity every day. This can include even taking an afternoon walk with your pets or family. Not all 30 minutes have to be done at once, even just 5 minute spurts throughout the day are good for you.
This is not an all or nothing diet.
Sometimes, contrary what has been said above, it is okay to treat yourself. One of the best ways to make sure that you stay on your diet, is to have a controlled cheat day. Cheat day does not mean that you get to eat 50,000 calories, have all your favorite junk food, and not move the whole day. If you want a successful cheat day, go ahead and order that pizza, but add some veggies. Still make sure that you take a walk, or even keep up the habit of taking the stairs at work. Yes, a cheat day is meant to be a cheat day, but by overdoing it you can fall off the wagon. There is a fine balance there that you will need to keep if you want to be successful on your weight loss journey.
